NYC-Based Events and Organizations Aiding Victims of LA Wildfires

NYC-Based Events and Organizations Aiding Victims of LA Wildfires

For a week now, wildfires have been burning, mostly uncontrolled, across the Los Angeles area, scorching tens of thousands of acres, claiming at least two dozen lives, and displacing hundreds of thousands more.

In response to the catastrophic scenes unfolding across the country, a grip of NYC-based organizations, businesses, and events have jumped into action to support the victims of the fires with fundraising efforts and supply drop-offs for those impacted.

We’ve collected a few of those below, and intend to keep this post updated with more as they pop up in the days ahead. You can also refer to Charity Navigator for a list of regional and national non-profits getting resources to those in need.

Walkup Studios
265 Canal St. Suite 313

Until January 16, the digital agency is welcoming supply drop-offs at their SoHo office, where they’re accepting donations — between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. — of clothing, blankets, towels, phone chargers, and feminine hygiene products, along with new clothes, socks and underwear. The agency will ship donated items directly to the North Hollywood YMCA and Altadena Girls.

Kancil
434 Amsterdam Ave.

Every Monday between January 13 and March 3, the Upper West Side Malaysian restaurant is donating 50 percent of their proceeds to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the non-profit arm of LAFD.

TimeOut New York Market
55 Water St.

To support the wildfire relief fund from American Red Cross, the Dumbo food hall will donate earnings from the sale of two new drinks; a blueberry margherita and a non-alcoholic cucumber jalapeño spritz. Both are available at all three of the market’s bars.

Viva Toro
987 Grand St.

In partnership with Migo Events, East Williamsburg’s Viva Toro will hold a donation drive on the evenings of January 14 and 15 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Though they’re no longer accepting adult clothing, attendees are encouraged to bring toiletries and feminine products, as well as new socks, underwear, and kids’ clothes.

The Record Club
233 Butler St.

A monthly event series highlighting the deep gratification of hearing grailed albums through world-class sound systems, The Record Club is turning this week’s run at Public Records into a fundraiser. TRC is donating the proceeds from ticket sales to the January 15 and 16 installments (which feature playbacks of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue) to mutual aid organizations collecting funds and supplies for families impacted by the Altadena and Eaton fires. You can purchase tickets via Posh today.

The Stand
116 E. 16th St.

The Union Square comedy outpost is hosting a benefit show on January 16, featuring Cipha Sounds on the decks and performances from Sam Jay, Mark Normand, Andrew Dice Clay, and more. All proceeds from the show will be donated to American Red Cross. You can purchase your ticket here.

Medusa
618 Grand St.

Femme-focused DJ series Bouquet is raising funds for the arts community and co-op at Zorthian Ranch in Altadena, which was devastated by the fire this past week. On January 18, expect blistering beat and DJ sets from JustMilk, Dewy ’87, and Chenoa Tarin. You can also donate directly to the ranch via GoFundMe.

Porterhouse Party
54 W. 21st St.

On January 30, Porterhouse Party is throwing a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation at Flatiron’s Slate. The catering company is selling tickets for $85 and committing to donating a portion of their revenue from the night. Each ticket covers a number of hard-seared offerings, including filet mignon bites, thick-cut bacon, 45-day dry-aged porterhouses, bone marrow shots, and, of course, sides.

The Entertainment Community Fund

The century-old non-profit has created a new aid fund to directly support artists, entertainers, and performers (of all tiers) who have been affected by the wildfires this past week. They provide mental health services, direct financial support, and a range of social safety net functions for entertainment professionals. You can donate to the organization here.
